Welcome message
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We are delighted to invite you to Athens to attend the first ESPGHAN Postgraduate Hands-On Course on Practical Techniques used in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology, which will be held in Athens, from May 23-24, 2016.
Training in interventional techniques for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes is an essential part of ESPGHAN Subspecialty Training Syllabus. Therefore, ESPGHAN is pleased to offer a Course that provides up to date knowledge and practical training in such techniques. It will take place in Athens on May 23-24, 2016, in collaboration with the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (ESNM), The Hellenic Society of Gastroenterology (HSG), and the ELPEN Experimental & Research Center, a nonprofit organization funded by the ELPEN Pharmaceutical Company. The Course is supported by an educational grant from United European Gastroenterology (UEG).
We have prepared a two day intensive Course with an interactive and comprehensive scientific programme focusing on endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, liver biopsies, GI physiology studies and treatment techniques of GI motility disorders. The hands-on therapeutic endoscopy training sessions will be on biologic models and mannequins, achieving optimum simulation and interaction. Participants will be divided into small groups guided by faculty members. Analysis of GI motility studies will be performed in individual laptops. All of the participants will be asked to complete a MCQ test at the end of the course and an evaluation form on the course. The Course will have EACCME accreditation.
The faculty comprises paediatric and adult gastroenterologists and other specialists with expertise in one or more of the following techniques: diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic techniques, liver biopsies, pH/impedance, esophageal, antroduodenal, colonic and anorectal manometry, barostat, endoflip, gastric and intestinal scintigraphy, EGG, treatment techniques of GI motility disorders such as gastric and intestinal pacing, peristeen, botox injection, biofeedback etc. They will address interdisciplinary topics, demonstrate state-of-the-art practice and endeavour to establish a network for future collaboration in the areas of interest. The Endoscopy Session will take place at the ELPEN Experimental Research Center, while the GI physiology Session will be held in the Aquamarina hotel.
The hands-on course is intended for trainees with some experience of endoscopy and/or motility studies in children. It is also suitable for those already trained who wish to brush up on their skills in therapeutic endoscopy and GI physiology testing as well as for pediatric nurse endoscopists and nurse specialists involved in performing GI physiology studies in children.
We look forward to welcome you in Athens!
